Case # 2: female 30 – 40 yrs
Week 1:
The client presents with Familiar Adenomatous Polyposis with total Colectomy & permanent ileostomy & with associated concerns, – approx 2-3 yrs ago.
If you are like me & I had no idea what that was either to start with – it means she has had the bowel removed, 1/3 of the small intestine removed & has an ileostomy bag permanently connected as the means to collect what the body needs to evacuate.
The client presents with the above concerns but of more pressing concern was a lower back complaint. The reason for this was she had been told & led to believe that it is what it is – here take these medications – it’s the only thing that can help you. There is nothing more you can do with it & as a consequence, she had sort of succumbed to that belief. Not believing that Bowen Therapy would be able to do anything for the above condition her attention was on her lower back.
Procedures used – bsc, kid, res (sup) Psoas, H/P
Week 2: (14 days later)
The client returns & reports the following…
Next couple of days after first treatment client was quite headachy & sore.
After that the lower back improved, energy levels improved, along with a general feeling of wellbeing – all of which had been absent for many years.
Today, the client is getting sharp cramp pains in the lower abdominal region which believed to be associated with the above intestinal & bowel operation. Originating more from the right –started about 1 week ago with origin unknown.
Procedures used Bsc, kid, resp, gb, ur/tmj, h/p.
Sent home with stretch exercise & instructions
Week 5: (6 weeks later)
Cramping in abdomen has reduced to almost nothing.
Back pain is still there but not as bad as has been (only 2/10)
Change from 30 Endone (pain killers) a day down to 9/day
Has noticed an improvement into the iliostomy bag in terms of both frequency & consistency/texture of waste evacuation.
Reflux still present, frequency has decreased but intensity increased again to previous levels after improvement last few weeks.
Procedures used – bsc, kid, resp, Lx rls, sac prn, gb, oesophagus, abdominal h/p.
Week 6: (3 weeks later)
Felt good after last session. A lot less discomfort & cramping in abdominal region but has returned in the last 2-3 days.
Pain in right hip improved a lot but again has returned in the last 2 -3 days
Movement into bag has improved – more solid than liquid & thicker in texture
Reflux & indigestion has increased a bit
Bsc, kid, resp, gb, oesophagus, abdominal
As at the time of this blog the treatment is ongoing.
Both the client myself are happy with the noticeable improvements. Whilst reading the above you would noticed some areas improving & others maybe not so or improvement s for a bit & then what seems to be a backwards direction in others.
It must be taken into consideration that Bowen Therapy Morningside is only one part of the client’s intensive care plan.
Sometimes it maybe 3-5 weeks between her Bowen treatments for any number of reasons.
She is obviously on a considerable amount of medications including some high levels of pain killers & sees a number of specialists for a number of things related to her condition.
This client travels quite some distance to see me & I consider it a privilege to be part of her treatment plan. She definitely gets benefit from the Bowen Therapy & it has provided me with a fantastic challenge & learning opportunity.
